Inspired by The Joel Test, I wrote this list of questions to measure the quality of any design team. Whether you’re a team with one or 1,000 designers, these things will make your design better and your company healthier.
Every team and company is different. If you want help scoring yourself, I’d love to talk to you about it.
Mission - Does everyone in your company have a shared, specific understanding of who your customers are and what they want?
Great design starts with a clear purpose.
Have you identified a market with a clearly-articulated need or opportunity? Have you validated that your product or service offering provides high value? Are the people in that market willing to exchange money for that value? Who is your customer, what pain are they experiencing, what they wish was happening instead, what will we do to get them there, and what will success look like when they get it?
